UK space industry: boldly growing a £40bn business


Even with their relatively low profile in the industrial landscape, UK space companies are already winning significant amounts of business. Inmarsat's satellites provided lines of communication after the earthquake in Haiti, allowing aid agencies to co-ordinate efforts. The company's system was also used after the similar disaster in Sichuan region of China in 2008, when the premier of the region said Inmarsat's satellites were the only thing working.
